THE HAT

Mercury has a hat with two pom poms on it that he really loves. He loves to wear it inside the house and often won’t part with it until bed time. The best combination is the hat, a big pink sweatshirt with polka dots on it and no pants. He looks so funny, but I don’t have a picture of it.

YOAP

I like how they say soap. Mercury used to pronounce it “Shoap!” with a long drawn out “Shhhhh” sound. “Shhhhhoap!” Now he says “Soap” but it’s still cute. Phoenix says “Yoap” though and I really like that. “I puta yoap on it hedgie hog?” Is something she might say before scrubbing up her little hedge hog bath toy. We have two kinds of hand soap that we rotate through known as “Myer’s Soap” (a common brand) and “Goat Soap” which was a Halloween gift from my Mom featuring a goat with a witch hat on it.

WOAH DEET!

Most of what they can say I figure out through time and repetition. But one that eludes me is “Woah Deet!” They say it sometimes when they’re excited or happy, or just want to start shouting something back and forth. It kind of reminds me of “Up The Chain.” It’s been going on so long now that I’ll say it with them even though I still haven’t figure it out.
